GARY CONWAY

Gary Conway rose to TV stardom in the 1960s.

In the Aaron Spelling's whodunit series, Burke's Law, he played Detective Tim Tilson. That was followed by the part of Captain Steve Burton in the Irwin Allen's "far out adventure" series, Land Of The Giants.

Gary made the comment in 1973, "I'm grateful to those who helped me get started, and I learned a lot about acting from working in television series. And audiences have learned much, too. Today, they are more intelligent and demanding because of television."

Burke's Law went on the air in September 1963. The show lasted three seasons. However Gary appeared in only two. Land Of The Giants was initially scheduled to go on the air in January 1968. But the network decided to push its launch back until the fall of that year. However due to lackluster ratings, the network decided to cancel the show in March 1970.

In defense of Land Of The Giants, Irwin Allen pointed out, "Our show is primarily visual, so you don’t need to understand the dialog to follow the story."

In an interview in 1995, Gary described of his experience working on the set of Land of The Giants, "....I hardly remember ever really having any conflict with anybody really as opposed to doing Burke's Law where constantly I had huge problems with Gene Barry. I mean, this was just unbelievable. This cast was terrific....."

Gene Barry passed away in December 2009. He was nominated for a Tony Award in 1984 for his performance in the Broadway musical, La Cage Aux Folles. At the time Gene maintained, "I’m not playing a homosexual — I’m playing a person who cares deeply about another person."

And as a prelude to the more publicized catfight shown in the series Dynasty some 20 years later, it was noted a similar choreography was performed on Burke's Law in an episode called "Who Killed Alex Debbs". The actresses on the screen at the time were Diana Dors and Suzy Parker.
