TECHNOLOGICAL REVOLUTION

The Computer or Information Age had been described as the most revolutionary since the Industrial Revolution (1712-1905). In 2007, the computer (invented in 1947) turned 60. Society and the personal computer met for the first time in the 1980s.

The Computer Age was said "the most exciting times in human history, and there's no turning back…We're living at the maximum time of human existence on the face of this earth."

It was pointed out, "Once you use a word processor you'll never go back to the typewriter. It’s so convenient, and you can come up with perfect copy all the time." By 1995, one old-timer remarked, "If technology continues to advance at the pace that it has in the last 30 years, we’re in for future shock...The technology revolution is here to stay. No amount of wishing will make it all go away."

The computer had been hailed as not only the symbol of the Technological Revolution but its sum and substance as well. "Computer stores started popping up in the 1970s," one person recalled. "The first one opening in July 1975. By 1977 there were 500, and today (1982) there are over 1,500 plus the Radio Shack franchises and other chains."

Bill Gates made the comment in 2011, "The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve (Jobs) has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come." Steve once said, "I am pretty much a product of the television generation but to some extent starting to be a product of the computer generation. And the kids growing up now (1983) are definitely a product of the computer generation. And in their lifetime the computer will become a predominant medium of communication just as the television took over from the radio took over even from the book."
