BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO

The 1962 song Breaking Up Is Hard To Do was Neil Sedaka's first number one hit. Between 1962 and 2008, the song had been remade 18 times.

So popular was his song, in 1979, it was made into a four-hour TV mini series. Starring Billy Crystal and Susan Sullivan, Breaking Up Is Hard To Do - the mini series, analysed the issue of separation and divorce.

The tagline: Six suddenly single men starting lives over in a Malibu beach house. All had experienced failed marriages at roughly the same time. One critic noted, "This drama is somewhat interesting for presenting the topic of life after a divorce from a man's point of view."

Neil Sedaka sung the theme song.

In the March 2009 issue of Time Out New York Kids, Neil made the comment, "My songs always appealed to kids because they have memorable phrases. They were called 'sandwich songs.' The tra-la-la-la-la's were the bread, and the lyrics were the meat."

Las Vegas - summer, 1975: Neil Sedaka was playing support to the show's stars, The Carpenters, when he was asked by management to leave the show because he attracted a bigger response from the audiences night after night.

However Neil pointed out in December 2008, "But I was invited back a couple of years later, as the star."
